One
of the first exhibitions in 1999 by Galerie VIVID was called Rotterdam
Centraal. This exhibition presented an overview of work by designers and
artists that worked in Rotterdam.
Now almost 15 years later we again bring a new interesting overview.
Since 1999, the year that Galerie VIVID was founded, the city of Rotterdam
attracted a lot of designers, that started their career in this town,
because workspace and houses were available and rents were not too high.
Rotterdam is, for a lot of famous architecture firms, like OMA and MVRDV
a solid base from where they can work internationally. For designers and
artists the city works the same.
In 2007 VIVID made a show, called Dutch Design Port in New York with 10
well-known names in the design world. They were all based in Rotterdam.
After that year some succesful designers left Rotterdam, but on the other
hand new came in. It was interesting to see that two of the most promising
talents of the last Dutch design week in Eindhoven work and live in Rotterdam....
