VIVID Gallery presents a joint exhibition of Tomáš Gabzdil Libertiny and Nacho Carbonell. Although both still young, the ex-Design Academy graduates are causing quite a stir in the international design scene.

The quest for new materials is integral to the poetic work of the Slovakian designer Tomáš Gabzdil Libertiny (Studio Libertiny) now based in Rotterdam. His Paper Vases are made from 700 sheets of paper with an identical print of a tree, glued together so that the print becomes distorted on the surface. The blocks are then shaped with traditional wood-working techniques. And ofcourse The Honeycomb Vases on show, made by bees in a process Libertiny calls 'slow prototyping'. The vase has been purchased by MoMA in New York.

Paper also features in the playful work of Eindhoven-based Nacho Carbonell, as papier maché. His Evolution collection are spindly-legged chairs made from excess catalogues, with a built-in cocoon to allow the sitter to retreat into their own private bulbous sanctuary.

Both Carbonell and Libertiny are Designer of the Future 2009. This award is given to 5 promising designers on the occasion of the Design Miami/ Basel fair, June 9 - 13.
