VIVID design is organizing an exhibition in co-operation with Designlink from January 20th till March 10th 2002:

Good Industrial Design 2001
The best industrial designs of 2001

Since 1986 the acknowledgement 'Good Industrial Design' is awarded in the Netherlands. It is not really a price but more a quality label for good craftsmanship. The organization Designlink has composed an independent jury that judged 158 products for 2001. The evaluation was based on a variety of professional design standards like technical functionality, safety, ergonomics, originality, innovation, design and respect for the environment.
The Philips Senseo Crema coffee machine, new developed grass for the Arena-stadium in Amsterdam, a hand saw, and more than a hundred other products received the label of Good Industrial Design in 2001.
VIVID design has made a selection of 25 products that can be seen in Rotterdam.
The VIVID exhibition space will be transformed by WAAC's, the designers of the Senseo Crema coffee machine.

Opening: Sunday Januari 20th, 16.00h

The exhibition Good Industrial Design 2001 inspired VIVID to organize the debate:

Design: not art!

A panel will attack the following proposition:
A distinction is often made between art-designers and industrial-designers. Innovations in form are being made by artists.
Participants in the debate are:
Hein van Haaren, former director of the Department of Esthetic Design of PTT [Dutch Post]
Cok de Rooij, owner Frozen Fountain, Amsterdam
Joost Alferink, Waac's design office, Rotterdam
Marc Ruygrok, artist.

The debate will be in Dutch and will take place on Tuesday 12 February 2002 at 20.00h at auditorium 'De Unie', Mauritsweg 34, Rotterdam.
